Mathematical Saturday in Alt Empordà

Activity organized by the Prince of Girona Foundation and the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Foundation, with the collaboration of the City Hall of Figueres. It is addressed to students of first and second course of high school degree with the aim of showing the presence of mathematics in everyday life and enhancing the interest of students through education and entrepreneur style.

On the morning of February 25th, 2012, the Centre of Integrated Training of Figueres gathered more than 70 young people coming from a dozen of educational centres from the area of Girona, which participated in the different activities that took place.

The programme of activities consisted of three speeches by three Professors of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, three show workshops in pairs, and an open activity for everybody: A Universe of mathematics: from the movement of the stars to space highways

The awarded people in the three different topics were:

  • The Art of Encoding Messages: Pep Rodeja Ferrer (IES Castelló d’Empúries) and Joan Gratacós Aurich (IES Alexandre Deulofeu)
  • Mathematics and Astrodynamics: Ariadna Matabosch Reixach and Raquel Sebastià Sala (IES La Garrotxa)
  • Evolution and Mathematics: Anna Agustí Cristau and Àngel Agustí Cristau (Escola Paula Montal)

 

The finalists were:

  • The Art of Encoding Messages
    • 2nd classified: Guillem Jové Castané and Quim Cruañas Verdú (IES Cendrassos)
    • 3rd classified: Carla Vinuesa Gálvez and Cora Hilera Claver (IES Ramon Muntaner)
  • Mathematics and Astrodynamics
    • 2nd classified: Àngel Renart Blanch and Vicenç Teixidor Tejada (IES Alexandre Deulofeu)
    • 3rd classified: Judith Bellido Orta and Raquel Bellido Orta (IES Llançà)
  • Evolution and Mathematics
    • 2nd classified: Anna Guisado Corcoll and Judith Tarradas Aguer (IES Alexandre Deulofeu)
    • 3rd classified: Laia Quera Teixidor and Eva Espigué Ribas (Escola Paula Montal)

The awarded teams have been invited to the Forum IMPULSA 2012 organized by the Prince of Girona Foundation. Moreover, the winners were given a digital tablet.
